He has played in the bands of Illinois Jacquet, Galt MacDermott, Lionel Hampton, Thad Jones-Mel Lewis, Thelonius Monk, Elliot Lawrence, Charlie Mingus, Stan Kenton, Benny Goodman, Bill Finegan, Charlie Barnet, Woody Herman and Red Norvo.
