In an interesting discussion, celebrated artist Elizabeth Murray talks about her medium and her remarkable career, its difficulties and pleasures.

Elizabeth Murray's work has been the subject of nearly 60 solo exhibitions around the world since her New York City debut in 1972 at the Whitney Museum of American Art. She has participated in six Whitney Biennial exhibitions since 1973. The artist has received many honorary doctorates and awards, among them the Walter M. Campana Award from the Art Institute of Chicago, the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters Award, and the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Award. With her husband, the poet Bob Holman, she was honored in 2002 by the Anderson Ranch Art Center with its National Artist Award. In addition to her current teaching position at Bard College, Ms. Murray has taught at colleges and universities including The Art Institute of Chicago, Princeton University, Yale University, the School of Visual Arts, and the New York Studio School. The Museum of Modern Art invited her to curate "Artist's Choice: Elizabeth Murray: Modern Women" in 1995 following her inclusion in MoMA's 1990-91 "High & Low: Modern Art and Popular Culture." Ms. Murray's work can be found in over 40 public collections in the United States.

Michael Kimmelman became chief art critic at The New York Times in 1990, having joined the staff as an art critic in 1988. His book, Portraits: Talking with Artists at the Met, the Modern, the Louvre and Elsewhere, which evolved out of interviews that first appeared in The Times, was published in 1998 and selected as a notable book of the year by The Washington Post and The Times. Mr. Kimmelman was a finalist in criticism for the Pulitzer Prize in 2000.
