Publisher's Summary:

Placido Domingo, international opera star, recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors for Achievement in the Arts and a 12-time Grammy winner, discusses his art and his career.

Placido Domingo has sung 120 different roles, more than any other tenor in the annals of music, with at least 3 more new parts planned in the next 3 seasons. His repertoire runs the gamut from Mozart to Verdi, from Berlioz to Puccini, from Wagner to Ginastera. He sings in every important opera house in the world and has made over 100 recordings, for which he has earned 9 Grammys, as well as 2 Grammys in the newly established Latin Division. He has made more than 50 videos and 3 films, Zeffirelli's Traviata and Otello, and Rosi's Carmen. As a conductor, he has led opera performances in all the important theaters, the Metropolitan to London's Covent Garden and has conducted with the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony, and Chicago Symphony. As administrator, he was the music director of the Seville World's Fair and is currently the General Director of both the Washington Opera and the Los Angeles Opera.

Anthony Tommasini, the chief music critic of The New York Times, is an author and a pianist. A 1970 graduate of Yale University, he later earned a Master of Music degree from Yale School of Music and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University. Mr. Tommasini has taught music at Emerson College, and nonfiction writing workshops at Wesleyan University and Brandeis University. In 1997, he published Virgil Thomson: Composer on the Aisle, a book called "indispensable to anyone concerned with American cultural history of the period," by The New York Review of Books. As a pianist, Mr. Tommasini can also be heard on two Northeastern Records CDs of Thomson's music.
