Her body of work was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993. Other major awards include the 2000 National Humanities Medal, the 2000 Library of Congress Living Legend Award, and the 1996 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. Ms. Morrison was appointed Robert F. Goheen Professor in the Council of the Humanities at Princeton University in the spring of 1989. She has held teaching posts at Yale University, Bard College, and Rutgers University. Ms. Morrison's latest novel, Love, was published by Knopf in October 2003. Dinitia Smith joined The New York Times as a culture reporter in May 1995. Ms. Smith is also the author of three novels, The Illusionist, Remember This, and The Hard Rain. She has published short stories in many magazines and journals, and has been a book reviewer for The Times, The Washington Post, Newsday, The Nation and other publications.
