She has appeared with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Albert Hall in London, at Carnegie Hall in 1998, 2001, and 2003, in the New Year's Eve Millennium concert with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and twice with Marvin Hamlisch. Ms. Cook made her Broadway debut in 1951. She is the recipient of a Tony Award, a Grammy Award, a Drama Desk Award, and was recently inducted into the Broadway Hall of Fame. Stephen Sondheim wrote the music and lyrics for A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1962), Anyone Can Whistle (1964), Company (1970), Follies (1971), A Little Night Music (1973), The Frogs (1974), Pacific Overtures (1976), Sweeney Todd (1979), Merrily We Roll Along (1981), Sunday in the Park with George (1984), Into the Woods (1987), Assassins (1991), Passion (1994), and Bounce (2003). He has also written lyrics for many musicals, including West Side Story; composed scores for three films, written songs for television productions, and provided incidental music for four plays. He is also on the Council of the Dramatists Guild, of which he was President from 1973 to 1981. Stephen Holden joined The New York Times in 1988 after writing popular music criticism for Rolling Stone and The Village Voice.
