Peachy Carnahan and Daniel Dravot set off into the wild northern passes of India to build not a fortune, but an empire. They find a likely spot in Kafiristan, where Dravot manages to set himself up, not only as king, but as a god, and Peachy takes charge of the army. But ruling isn't always as easy as it looks.
