Publisher's Summary:

On October 15, 1973, Spiro Agnew resigned from the office of the vice presidency after agreeing not to contest a government charge of income tax evasion. To avoid imprisonment, Agnew admitted that he failed to report $29,500 of income in 1967 while he was Governor of Maryland. President Richard M. Nixon would immediately nominate Gerald R. Ford, Republican Leader of the House, to succeed Agnew as vice president.
